Even the most determined cat is going to have a hard time getting into this box.
Fluxx is the card game of ever-changing rules, ever-changing goals, and ever-changing themes. I remember when I first bought a copy of Fluxx. My wife was in the hospital, bored out of her mind and I nipped off to the local game store to pick up something small we could play bedside. I ended up finding Firefly Fluxx. We adored it. Since then, I've gotten a pretty impressive collection of Fluxx titles, sneaking in Math Fluxx and Astronomy Fluxx to back door my kids into learning a bit while playing. My personal favorites, besides Firefly Fluxx, are the Monty Python and Doctor Who themed releases. So, when I heard that Looney Labs was releasing Cat Fluxx, I figured my devout cat lady wife would like it as much as I like the geeky ones.

Cat Fluxx does a great job of hitting on all of the “Everyone has had this experience with their cat” moments with goals referencing empty food bowls and every cat's nemesis, the vacuum cleaner.

As a Ex-Veterinarian Technician, my wife was hoping for more of the educational bits of trivia on the kitty cards. While there are a few in the game, the kitty theme is done in more broad strokes.
One of my favorite Fluxx cards makes a return in Cat Fluxx- The Zap It card. This action allows you to take any card in play and add it to your hand. I find it particularly apt when my wife plays this card to take/get another cat. As someone who calls The Humane Society “The Kitty Store” she does love picking up a stray or two.

As always, chance and luck play a huge part in Cat Fluxx. You'll sometimes swap keeper cards or the evil Creeper cards. Hell, sometimes you will swap entire hands at the whim of the deck. Cat Fluxx is anything but seriously competitive. Any game that allows someone to sit down at any time during the game, have three cards dealt to them and jump right in should clue you in to that fact.

Cat Fluxx also includes a solo mode if you would like to go all-in on the “Lonely Cat Lady” Trope. This mode has you removing about a dozen cards that wouldn't apply to a single player and playing through the entire deck, setting aside goal cards as you achieve them. This is very reminiscent of Solitaire in that the game is pretty much determined by the order the cards come out. Your final score is the number of goal cards you complete so, you just end up playing to try to beat your previous score.

Our cats: ** Takes a deep breath ** Lunar, Noel, Bernie, Zeus, Cosmo, Bob, and Ella all give this game their seal of approval...but, in true cat style, refused to sit still and/or wake up for pictures. I always say pick a flavor and Fluxx probably has a version for you. If you are a feline fan...Wait a minute, now I'm thinking the alliteration of calling it Feline Fluxx would have be pretty sweet. Ah well, let's call it Cat Fluxx until Grimalkin comes back into popular usage.
