Surprised it took this long, actually. I know hotseat was on the hook for Siege: 6 which you did eventually get...? Don't know how many others here were involved in the Darkest Dungeon stuff or other ill-fated projects.

On the rare occasions that I noticed Mythic Games, all I saw was big piles of bloatware.

I'm on the outside looking in. Never got involved with any of their games, so I don't know what the appeal was.

I refused to pay their blackmail money on 6 Siege but did throw in to Steamforged since I trust them to actually deliver on it. I am ultimately getting less game since I didn't go "all-in" the second time, but it's more than enough game for me. Steamforged has not gone to print with it yet.

I know the game is actually good, and look forward to getting it. I'll bet the designer was horrified by all of this.

They did actually design/make really good games, which is why they have managed to sell those IPs which then have been successfully produced by those buyers, they were just poor business people who got caught out by COVID and the following shipping catastrophe that obliterated the small margins in their ponzi-like (not the only crowdfunding games company doing this, then and still) projects.

I was caught in both the Darkest Dungeon and HEL crashes, lucky paying by credit card in the UK we are protected by law and I was able to get reimbursed for both - I then bought someone else's Darkest Dungeon and, hopefully now that Don't Panic Games have bought the HEL IP from CMON (who bought it from Mythic), I may be able to get that sometime in the future.

You piqued by interest, I was looking at their list.

boardgamegeek.com/boardgamepublisher/335...mepublisher?pageid=1

I wouldn't say it's like a list of memorable hits but there are some supposedly solid games in there.

Compare to CMON which has some really really good games in their catalog and the same thing is happening to, but same pattern for the same reasons.

They produced some legit good games.

6: Siege is my favorite miniatures skirmish game. Ever. And skirmish miniatures gaming has been my favorite genre since I found Necromunda in the 90s.

Mythic Battles: Pantheon was my previous favorite miniatures skirmish game. Just recently edged out by 6: Siege. I don't know how much of MBP to attribute to Mythic, as it was a joint venture with Monolith who took the line over early on.

Solomon Kane is a very interesting mashup of dungeon crawler/adventure game where players control different virtues that influence the titular character. You are represented by spirits on the board and not physically present in the game's fiction. It's heavily narrative driven and a fantastic game that suffers from some bloat and being a little needlessly complex.

I thought Reichbusters was heavily flawed and wrote a negative review of that one.

Joan of Arc has the most errata of any game ever produced. Seriously. It's a disaster.

Super Fantasy Brawl is held in high regard.

Edit - to be technical and clear, I don't consider Earth Reborn or Core Space miniatures skirmish games exactly due to their unique structure. I rate them higher than 6: Siege.

Have been having this discussion occasionally on Reddit and BGG as people are ranting about not receiving Cthulhu: Dark Providence yet or whenever news about the latest IP sale comes out and people sound like MB disciples: "Trash games from a trash company."

I'm like: Did you ever actually PLAY any of their games? Ankh, Rising Sun, Blood Rage, Ethnos, Cthulhu DMD, The Others. All of those are great games; some of them destined to be classics. Hell, their version of Modern Art is my all-time favorite because it had art by actually modern living artists.

It's just the modern version of Internet discourse: "I have decided that this thing is bad and, therefore, it can only be bad in all ways, shapes, and forms. There is no context. There can be no debate. Bad."

I get that people are pissed that the retail version is already out on shelves. I'm one of those who pre-ordered before I even knew there were DMD investigators included, so I'm in the same boat. But I can also recognize the differences between bad circumstances, basic incompetence, and outright fraud. I get being genuinely angry about the last two, but not the first one.

Agreed, I wouldn't say that all their biggest ticket stuff was great, a lot of mid corridor battlers, but they have some absolute bangers in there. Just because it was kickstarted doesn't change that.

They also had some incredible standalone releases we wouldn't associate with a kickstarter model (supposedly Dogs of War is great) and they republished some classics so...
