War of the Ring painting?

I want to paint my plastic minis different solid colors to make them easier to differentiate. As in each factions minis would be a single color. What is the most easy and cheapest way to do this that won't look like total crap?

Do a simple base gray or white primer. Choose your single color. Use hobby paints, not acrylic. THen, after your units are painted, use a black or brown wash to give the creases and features definition. It won't be a Davinci, but it will look a thousand times better than base plastic

Take a look at the What Minis are a You Painting thread. Not too far back you can see the result of the above described method or close to it. Engineer Al did it that way and the minis look great. For the love of god, don't do what I did, really paint them. So many minis.......so many....

Another easy method I've seen people use is coloring the bases with different color Sharpies. Don't even need paint.

I've played copies where the person just colored the bases using one method or another. I don't think it's enough and the units are still hard to tell apart. At least for me.

I spray painted mine but it was so long ago I don't remember what paint I used. It worked just fine though. Make sure you wash them thoroughly first because they seem to have built in oil or something that will prevent the paint from drying properly.
