Buy the Friendly Skies: A Pan Am Board Game Review

The goal of the game is to own the most...

When Pan Am was released back in 2020, it was easy to dismiss it as “Direct to Target Junk.” At a glance, it appeared to be “Ticket To Fly” and was published by Funko Games, who were known as purveyors of fine pop culture plastic. However, the secret sauce was Prospero Hall, who were picking up the “Good boardgames based on licensed IP's” torch that Gale Force Nine was dropping right around the same time. (Note that I said licensed IP's, not GOOD licensed IP's because, really, Pan Am?)

Great review! This game would generally not be my style, but I really do like it. I have not played in a while but would like to have it hit the table again, one of these days.

I really like how some of the cards have tiny factoids about the real Pan Am on them.

Excellent review. This is the only "train" game I've ever liked and, like you, I thought "Pan Am? WTF?" when it comes to the theming. And, yes, it is the pinnacle of capitalist skeeviness... but that makes for a really great game. I've had people bounce off it to some degree, because they approach it like a worker placement/network builder thing and go hog wild on airports in the first couple rounds and then realize that those routes are gone and now they have to rebuild everything while they're way behind. I've told them when teaching: Be light, be agile, make things as shiny as possible for the dominant corporation and then soar off with your stock. I've traded off some other Prospero Hall stuff but this will always stay, not least because it's something I can entice non-gamerz to play that has nothing to do with dragons or space battles or all the other things that our crowd is fine with. Great, great game.

Thanks for the compliments on the review. If you haven't played this, it's dirt cheap out in the wild right now, pick it up!

If my dad was still alive, I am fairly certain that he would have enjoyed Pan Am. He was an Acquire addict.

I like to play board games with suitable background music. Despite the name, this is a great mix for Pan Am:
