Based on this, I don't think this game sounds like it's only for the sexy people.

So, do those two rules issues make you think that they were part of the design and that's just the game's level of complexity or issues that were introduced to resolve an even larger design problem (i.e. a way to get out of the corner they'd painted themselves into)?

The "They Score only thier color" rule really feels like it was a late addition to add a push your luck element and to throw in a catch up mechanism. The other is just quirky, draw one card from the Discards and keep it OR draw two from the deck and keep one.
