I was trying to explain Magical Athlete to a friend....

Welcome to the Magical MysteryAthlete Tour De Force, a roll and riot game. As in: Roll some dice and have a laugh riot. CMYK has taken the original Magical Athlete and everything that made it amazing, filed off the rough edges, embraced it's strangeness, and created a release that is even more epic than the original...and I didn't even think that was possible.

You're absolutely right in that everything they changed was an improvement. I loved the old bidding system, but a snake draft is just easier and faster. I loved the old dirt track board, but the new one is simply more appealing on a visual level and much more likely to attract bystanders who will want to know what's going on. Same for the racers, which are a large leap forward from the old cardboard standees (cue the usual argument over "fancy minis" vs "cost-effective standees" in 3... 2... 1...) I'm really reluctant to sell/trade/donate/whatever my old copy, but there's no reason to play it over this one.

I never owned the original, I only had plays on other's copies (who obviously didn't want to part with it). So, this was never an issue for me. I'm more than happy with just having this new version.

I sold my original copy for stupid money but now I'm temped to buy the new release for more money then I think it's worth.

Exact same position. I doubt it has any significant value at this point, really to the credit of the new version. The nostalgia factor is still pretty strong.

I'm convinced to pull the trigger. It's in my Amazon Cart. I guess if I can get my wife and 28 and 29 year old daughter to play twice it will be worth the $29.99 to relive the fun we had playing the original when they were teenagers.

I ordered this on Amazon but they are waiting for a new shipment. This site obviously caused a run on the game. I should keep a list of every game I've bought because of this site and ended up trading because I actually don't have a gaming group. It's like setting up a volleyball net in my front yard and then complaining that volleyball is a stupid game with poorly written rules

The publisher was saying on BGG it was getting sold out pretty soon after it came out, so I'm not super surprised.

On the plus side, they just restocked Hot Streak.

I sold at least 3 copies of this game at BGG.Con this past week...and by sold, I mean had them pre-order it for when it's back in stock after playing my copy. The thing sells itself. Got one of them to also add Wilmot's Warehouse for free shipping so he could play it with his kids...
