Before I even made it though the door, I had...

I had the pleasure of recently attending Protospiel STL 2026. Protospiel is all about playing prototypes and giving feedback to the creators. Over 125 attendees gathered at what I consider my Friendly Local Game Store, Game Nite, in St. Louis to test prototypes. It was a three day event running from Friday Evening through Sunday. I was attended both Friday Night and all of Saturday. During that time I was able to play over a dozen games, talk to both play testers and designers, and generally feel good about the state of “The Hobby” in St. Louis.

Cool stuff. Re: the shirt, I've had a similar experience in recent years with a Jesus Lizard shirt (Mickey Mouse knockoff wielding a battleaxe riding a missile) in that I basically can't step into a public space without at least one person approaching me and saying some variation of "Killer shirt, man!" I was at French Quarter Fest last year and was standing in a food line when I got a tap on my shoulder, turned around, and a guy in a kilt just looked at me, put a finger to my chest to point at the shirt, and then offered a fist for a bump and walked away. It's hilarious.

Thank you for the article, I didn't know that this Protospiel existed! If you have seen the Femmes in St. Louis recently, we were probably at the same show. They were the first band I ever saw live (in Iowa City, Iowa, I think, in the late 80's/early 90's), and the band that I have seen the most. Second would be The Devil Makes Three. I live north of you in America's Hometown, Hannibal. Hopefully, the Femmes will be back soon. Thanks again for all the content you contribute.

I've seen the Femmes about 8 times live. The person who introduced me to them was a local artist named https://guyburwell.com/Guy Burwell, who was working as an airbrush artist at a placed called California Shirtworks in my local mall. He now does concert posters out in California. I vividly remember him blasting Add It Up while airbrushing me a Wolverine shirt when I was in High School (he would reach over and kill the volume for the Why Can't I get just one Fuck bit).

I once saw them at Mississippi Nights in St. Louis for the "3" tour. I brought my brand new girlfriend to the show and we were in the all ages seats. We were making out during their set in the way only newly smitten teenagers can and Gordon Gano said something like "Hey, Get a room!" The irony of the guy who wrote some of the horniest songs of my teenage years telling me to get a room was not lost on me.
