My guess is you would run out of room on the map if you were using the minis. It has a new map I assume specifically tailored to 2 players.

I'm assuming you would have to pnp the new map and print a copy of the rules. I just wonder how much they've changed the rules and the spell books and etc to make things work 2p, and how annoying it would be to play this with regular CW components.

Is this available for purchase anyplace other than direct from Peterson Games? $18 shipping is a bit steep...

Not yet. It was just released yesterday by Petersen Games. However, based on how they have released their games in the past, I expect it will eventually be available elsewhere, you just may need to wait awhile.
