My spouse and I played a ton of this, so I will wait to hear some trusted reviews but might get it as a gift.

It makes me a little elitist. I am automatically skeptical of outside the industry, especially from the video game world, board game designs. I would never buy one sight unseen. They can end up good (like that game by the League people) but I'm not buying someone's trash "never designed a board game but check out our license!" designs.

I've played some of the trash fires that my nephew buys because they're related to his favorite license. Ugly stuff. He has fun with it, I'm not going to say anything about it, but it's just another version of normie people being subjected to bad designs that has been going on for 50 years.

I believe one of the designers designed a Gamewright card game. I don’t know if that makes the game more promising or less promising.

I read through the rules, and most of the actions seemed to be roll some dice and hope. It looked like it would probably be fun, but not fun enough to buy blindly before seeing more about it. Then it sold out, so I don't have to worry about it for a while anyway. It did make me want to play the video game again if nothing else.

Lots of rolling dice and failing to do anything useful, with barely any way to mitigate the luck. Yea.

Yikes man. I hate that these are the games video gamers get. It's a real bummer for our hobby that video gamers get this novelty horseshit and go "ok, that's what board games are."

Exploding cats etc.

I've heard from a few board gamers who are also Star Dew Valley fans, that they enjoyed this game. However, I will wait to see what they think of it in a few months, once the shine is off the apple, which will likely coincide with the second printing being available.
