Dark humor story-building card game One Drunk Night… is the next evolution in Adult Social Party Games

July 16th 2019 – Austin, TX – Atomic Children has announced its game “One Drunk Night…” for miscreants, deviants, or anyone that isn’t afraid of laughing at dark humor.

Inspired by the epically over-embellished, socially lubricated stories friends often share, One Drunk Night… is a dark humor story-building game where players crowdsource cards to craft a drunken adventure. “The result is unpredictable and frequently crude with potential catastrophic moral repercussions on your psyche.” And to answer your question: Yes, the “…” is part of the name which references both the game structure and the cliffhanger element contained in each of the 600 cards.

In the niche world of adult games, one inevitable comparison comes to mind: Cards Against Humanity. They may not have started the genre, but they did make laughing at awful, socially awkward topics mainstream.  One Drunk Night… sits squarely in that genre but evolves the dynamic of fill in the blank with a random awful phrase to a story-building model where a group cooperatively links cards into a comprehensive, off-color story.  Other elements, such as the abilities of the Storyteller to dynamically edit the story in progress, do point to a more evolved game that still feels light enough to teach to your tipsy friends.

Atomic Children (the upstart company behind One Drunk Night…) attempted to launch their game 2 years ago as an 80’s throwback Choose-Your-Own-Adventure game.  “The Kickstarter platform wasn’t really something we fully understood; we just went for it.  We made a lot of mistakes that we now understand are typical to first timers, …but the knowledge we gained from our mistakes was really valuable.”  Since that time the Choose-Your-Own-Adventure tag has become hot, due mostly to the lawsuit involving streaming giant Netflix and their use of the tag.  Atomic Children’s marketing campaign (and thus their entire 80s mood) became a litigation risk, so a much more modern theme and the Drunkman mascot were adopted.

This week, Atomic Children relaunched One Drunk Night… with a fresh look, brand, and perspective.  “We spent the last two years revamping, rebranding, and learning about the Kickstarter community. We personally overhauled all the graphics and designs. We continued to playtest and improve the cards as well as the rules.  One Drunk Night… is now something we are proud and read to share with the world.”  One Drunk Night… is available now on Kickstarter with an optional 100 card N.S.F.S (Not. Safe. For. Society.) expansion.  Welcome to the first of hopefully many extraordinary games from Atomic Children.  Visit them at their website or on Facebook.
