We're all really disappointed. It was the "right" decision, but it really sucks.

As disappointed as we are, I think it's even rougher on my family, who were all really holding on to it as an anchor. My sister and her family are in a particularly Trumpy part of the country and neither of them really missed any work at all, or did for very little time. My parents moved just before lockdown, so they haven't even had a chance to build a life at all in their new location. Plus this summer is my parents' 40th anniversary, and we had a getaway planned. As much as we are grieving the loss, our families are taking it worse.
It's all just terrible. It's really shot my will to do much else besides exist at this point, though at least when I do that I am with my family and we are still safe and healthy.
I just wish people cared about other people more.

I am so sorry you had to make that difficult decision. I feel that the most difficult thing to bear right now is being separated from family. I am so envious of people who live closets most of their family members.

I just spent 4 weeks coding an on-line(intranet) shared calendar because people can't figure out how to use the Outlook shared calendar functionality. It is the stupidest thing ever. So if you are taking time off, you now need to enter it in 3 places. Payroll/HR app, Outlook shared calendar for your team and scheduling meetings, and this ugly online shared calendar for dummies.

I was asked to create a conference room reservation system, for one conference room shared by 12 people in three rooms. "Have you considered a clipboard?" followed the first phrase when I was asked to do that.

The same idiots who can’t use Outlook will soon be just as confused by whatever you came up with to replace it with.

You can actually do this in Outlook too.
I have a similar attitude. I get paid the same whether I’m writing code or sweeping the floor. And sweeping the floor is easier.

We did as much as we could to make it as idiot proof as possible. So mostly it’s a ton of code behind the scenes to prevent stupidity.

User stupidity is like the tide. It will rise to overcome the most robust of sanity checks.ubarose wrote: We did as much as we could to make it as idiot proof as possible. So mostly it’s a ton of code behind the scenes to prevent stupidity.
