Holy crap. It just showed up out of the blue here on the West Coast!
I got mine on Friday... holy shit there is a lot of plastic in this box. It's much more value for my money than I paid - THREE FUCKING YEARS AGO - but despite there being a lot of plastic the mini's look kind of shitty. Not awful but not good either. Honestly though, I don't mind at all. The mini's are perfectly functional and look good enough when on the board.
I'm very curious about this two player game that came included though.. it's a completely different game than the main one (different board, different objectives and and two decks of cards) I'm not at all sure what to expect.
Unfortunately there isn't much chance of me trying any of this out any time soon. When I ordered it my new son (and new house) were completely non existent and now that they're here I have pretty much no time at all for games.

Victory Point Games was having a sale on some of their States of Seige titles, and I took advantage by buying Cruel Necessity and Ottoman Sunset. These are solo games, which I love, and they will represent my first journey into wargames. Are these ttrue wargames? I have no idea. These games are both supposed to be quite tough, which is right up my alley. I love everything I hear about VPG, and I'm desperate to try Dawn of the Zeds 3rd edition, which should be out by the end of the year.
I also picked up Don't Turn Your Back. This will be my first deck builder. The reviews look stellar. I was intrigued by the theme. Whether the mechanics support the theme, we shall see. Evil Hat seems to have created an interesting setting--the same world as the Don't Rest Your Head RPG.
Last but not least, I picked up New Salem, which has some interesting and apparently humorous traitor dynamics. After ordering it, some mediocre reviews appeared, but I'm hopeful that the game is interesting.

No they aren't, they are whack a mole games which is a poor substitute for an actual solo game. Soviet Dawn is perhaps the worst simulation of the RCW I have ever played. Wargames are at least supposed to vaguely simulate the conflict. Soviet Dawn fails miserably. Totally put me off all other VPG games, especially the State of Siege series.

This game really appeals to me. I think someone here recommended the book T he Great Game . After watching various nationalities jockey for money I find the whole thing fascinating. One of my Qatari students said that the British are like gum on your shoe--you can't get completely rid of them, ever. That said, I bought Greenland a year ago and haven't played it yet.

If Pamir is anything like Porifiana it will be awesome. Porfiriana is probably my favourite card game. I will throw together a review once i have a couple of games in.
I have read Peter Hopkirk's the great game, really good read. I am preparing a mega game on the great game for the Pennine Mega gamers in the UK.

Oh! And Daviau is at Essen and I asked him to grab the Theseus: Hunters expansions, N. Hex Steel Police, and Pax Pamir. Hopefully he can. Also asked him if he's heard anything good about this game, Pandemic Leprosy or something. Supposed to be the shit?
